When the news of the Supreme Court leak broke, it seemed as if there was a new groundswell of abortion stories. People who’d had abortions long ago or since the Texas abortion ban spoke out. They did so on social media, to their families and friends, on newspaper editorial pages, and at rallies. With the fall of Roe, these stories become even more important. Through them, we can see where we’ve been, where we are, and learn where we might be going.

Stigma and shame hinder us all. Stories are how we break silences, and quiet stigma and lift shame; these stories matter more now than ever, because without them, we cannot begin to communicate what abortion means in all of our lives.
